As a trusted residential electrician / commercial electrician serving Lakeland, Eagle Lake, Winter Haven and all of Polk County, your friends at Top Flight Electric would like to remind you of some pitfalls to avoid when it comes to your wiring and electrical system. Many of the items we will discuss in our next series of articles are examples of problems our licensed electrician identifies during a routine electrical safety inspection.

Electrical fires are real, accounting for an estimated 51,000 fires each year and nearly 500 deaths (source: Electrical Safety Foundation International). Many electrical fires can be prevented if potential issues are identified before they become problematic. In addition to an annual electrical safety inspection, our certified electrician also recommends avoiding some common pitfalls.

Trusting Old Wiring

Most electrical wiring lasts 30 years. If your home or office has wiring that is more than 30 years old, we recommend having our licensed electrician conduct an electrical safety inspection to ensure no hidden dangers lurk within your walls.

Ignoring Flickering Lights

Flickering lights can be a warning sign of a wiring issue. First, try replacing the bulb. If the problem persists, then give our licensed electrician a call to evaluate the problem.

Not Using GFCI

All kitchen and bathroom outlets should be equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI). A GFCI shuts down power when water or excessive moisture is present, thus preventing potential electric shock. If you do not have GFCIs installed, our certified electrician can do this for you.

Our next article will discuss more pitfalls our licensed electrician recommends avoiding.
